They fight, they disagree, but they love each other. I have to applaud the realism in the romance. I loved the way Adrienne Young created a character with such enormous reach and presence that he didn’t even need to physically be in a scene to impact it. ![]() For a guy who hardly made any actual appearances in this book, he was a force. I think they would make excellent spin-off characters and I loved the way the story evolved from a pirate story in Fable to so much more in Namesake. I loved the introduction of Bastian as well as Holland, Ezra, and Koy as characters. Sky in the Deep was one of my favorite reads of 2019. The ending of Fable left me broken and desperate for more and I absolutely adore Adrienne Young’s writing. If Fable is going to save them then she must risk everything, including the boy she loves and the home she has finally found. In order to get to her intended destination she must help him to secure a partnership with Holland, a powerful gem trader who is more than she seems.Īs Fable descends deeper into a world of betrayal and deception, she learns that the secrets her mother took to her grave are now putting the people Fable cares about in danger. ![]() That freedom is short-lived when she becomes a pawn in a notorious thug’s scheme. Each of those houses also has a library where Follett writes. Back in England, the couple has a townhouse in London and a larger house, a converted rectory, 30 miles north of London, where they can host a tribe of children, stepchildren and grandchildren. ![]() “You get a different kind of understanding through your imagination, with the help of the author's imagination, of why people did the things they did."įollett is there with his wife Barbara, who was for 13 years a member of Parliament and was also the minister for culture in the recently defeated Labour government of Gordon Brown. That means Follett hardly has time to enjoy his beach house in Antigua, where he is taking the call from BookPage, he says, in his library, “a white room with white bookshelves and very large open windows that look out onto the beach.” “So I work six days a week, and for the first draft I try to write six pages a day, which is 1,500 words a day.” ![]() “If at all possible, I want to publish these books at two-year intervals,” Follett says. To complete his hugely ambitious trilogy of historical novels about the 20th century, Ken Follett has set himself a punishing writing schedule. ![]() Prelude by Ashley McConnell5/13/2023 ![]() If you are a fan of the Quantum Leap television series then you must read this. This is not a book review, this is a book demand. ![]() It was a thoroughly enjoyable return to the world of Quantum Leap. This book tied up some loose ends from the rest of the stories, giving us the origins of the project, and possibly explaining what went wrong and why Sam isn't in control of his travels. But the budget wary aren't the only threat, and those who want to see Sam fail are willing to go to any length to make that failure happen. Along the way, they have to convince their Federal Government sponsors that the investment of tax dollars is worth the risk, and to keep the penny-pinchers from shutting them down. Instead, we focus on Sam and Al as they put build the Quantum Leap project and put together the team that we have come to know from the show and other books. ![]() While there are hints that Sam is jumping into this story, we never see events from that perspective. Unlike the TV show and the other books, this isn't about the lives that Sam is jumping into and trying to fix. This book is the back story for the entire Quantum Leap storyline. As far as I can tell, this is the only book from the series that I hadn't read, and that was a shame, because I think this is actually my favorite. ![]() ![]() However, I somehow never got my hands on this one, until now. I was a fan of the "Quantum Leap" television series when it originally aired, and when I saw the tie-in novels, I read them as fast as I could find them. ![]() Selected Writings by Henri Michaux5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() He achieved world fame for his biography of Joyce and wrote many scholarly and critical works, including two on Yeats. For those intrigued by Cates’ use of Captain Universe (and count me one of them), this story will at least keep you satisfied with how it pans out.īoiled down to its essentials - which would mean removing a lot of Eddie/Venom banter via captions to one another - this is a very basic story about our hero finding a magical “elixir” to use on the villain for the final act. If you’re not a fan of deus ex machina, you will be disappointed with how Eddie finds the strength to fight back in the final moments. The narrative is rather basic in its main purpose and uses the “find another gear to win” method, which will satisfy fans who are here for the big blockbuster action. The main story has a huge idea at work here that advances Symbiotes beyond aliens with teeth and insatiable hunger.Īlong the way, a classic character is revived and all the build-up of this Symbiote purgatory helps make it feel at least a little bit earned. ![]() ![]() Along the way, Eddie has Rex Strickland as a guide, and it’s clear Cates is adding more to the Venom mythology with an impressive new layer that’s put the usually violent and physical alien race into a new spiritual place. It’s not much of a spoiler at this point since most of this book is Eddie’s journey in Symbiote purgatory. ![]() This book opens with Eddie Brock fighting Knull and literally dying.
